President Mnangagwa dumps Mugabe’s Look East Policy. This was revealed by ZANU PF MP kindness Paradza on Thursday during a parliamentary session. Said Paradaza, “The President has changed our foreign policy, he is no longer looking East but is looking everywhere.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dumped the Look East policy that was adopted by the late President Robert Mugabe at the turn of the millennium. Paradza further called for parliament to introduce laws that criminalise people who call for sanctions against Zimbabwe.

“I think the time has now come for us to speak as Zimbabweans against sanctions. We are all affected by sanctions.” Paradza added. “This Parliament must come up with a law that whoever calls for sanctions against his motherland must be prosecuted.”

The policy was introduced when the US and EU put in place targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe and the country seeks to strengthen its economic and political ties with China, which became Zimbabwe’s all-weather friend.

Economist Intelligence Unit (EUI) recently issued an opinion saying the policy will fail because of the capacity of Zimbabwe to pay credit.

“Zimbabwe will seek to deepen its trade and financial relations with China. However, China will remain concerned about Zimbabwe’s repayment capacity and actual Chinese lending may well fall short of the pledged commitments,” EUI said.
