Mthuli Ncube: 2020 budget marks the exit from austerity. Presenting his 2020 budget in Parliament this afternoon, Ncube said that the budget targets growth stimulation and employment through promotion of production-oriented investment and productivity, without losing focus on fiscal responsibility.

Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube has said that the country was now ditching the infamous austerity measures. His remarks are a strong redolence of what he and President Emmerson Mnangagwa have been saying over the past few months.

Authorities have often emphasised the importance of rains to the growth of the economy noting that Zimbabwe is an agrarian economy. They also said that rains are critical for power generation which is significantly low in the country as water is rapidly shrinking at Kariba Dam.

Meanwhile, some analysts have, in anticipation that the budget, which is being presented in Parliament right now, would, as usual, prioritise the security sector said that growth will be insignificant.
