#TBT: A picture of Morgan Tsvangirai being released from jail. The Late icon Morgan Tsvangirai was the face of opposition politics in Zimbabwe. The picture below shows Tsvangirai leaving prison and one couldn’t help but notice the admiration in the face of the prison guard.
The then-President of the main opposition party MDC was arrested on many occasions and sometimes beaten seriously. We remember this other one time he was having a rally in Highfield’s Zimgrounds. The article read:
Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was said to be seriously injured by police and one of his supporters was shot dead in an anti-government demonstration yesterday in Harare. He was injured when arrested along with more than 110 activists, according to officials in his party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
Heavily armed riot police were preventing a “Save Zimbabwe” prayer meeting in Harare’s Highfield township when they assaulted Mr Tsvangirai and arrested other opposition leaders, said witnesses and MDC officials. He has a “head injury that has caused heavy bleeding and bouts of dizziness. Others in the cells with him are very worried about his condition,” said Roy Bennett, the MDC’s representative in South Africa.
These were some of the incidents the great iconic man faced during his life as he fought for Zimbabweans to be liberated from the good boy gone bad Robert Mugabe. So today as a Thursday we just decided to to a Throw Back Thursday to the heydays when the man was fighting for our freedom.
