Kaizer Chiefs coach says his hands are tied when it comes to Billiat. The 29-year-old playmaker was nursing a hamstring niggle before the FIFA break, however, was still called in for national team duty for Zimbabwe, whereupon his return to South Africa sat out for Chiefs’ Telkom Knockout semi-final clash due to the same injury.

Ernst Middendorp admitted last night that Kaizer Chiefs and the Zimbabwean national team do not have any communication when it comes to Khama Billiat. However, Billiat, who was deemed fit enough for the starting line-up against Stellenbosch FC at the Cape Town Stadium last night, had to be substituted early in the second half after suffering another setback.

Speaking to the media, Middendorp was asked whether or not there was any communication between Chiefs and the Zimbabwe national team regarding Billiat and his fitness. “No, no,” Middendorp said.

“Serving the country is important, serving the country in Zambia, in Zimbabwe, in South Africa is important and that’s fine, it is a given situation so I have to send (the players), FIFA rules are there, even if he has a broken arm or leg, we have to send them.

“I don’t even know who is the one to talk to in Zimbabwe or Zambia, meanwhile there is a good communication with Molefi (Ntseki), the Bafana coach and with David Notoane at U23 and I think that it should be that the initiative should come out of the camp of the national team, to look in to who is injured and who has an issue,” he added.
