Miss Universe Zozibini Tuzni’s high-top fade has inspired scores of women across the globe.The Eastern Cape beauty’s natural hair has been getting a lot of attention since her crowning.
Zozibini defended her natural hair in the months leading up to the pageant. One Twitter user said that the 26-year-old looked like a boy and stood no chance of winning Miss Universe. Zozibini will not win Miss Universe. That girl is ugly she looks like a boy. She didn’t even deserve to win Miss South Africa. Stop fooling yourselves,” the tweep wrote.
Luthando ‘LootLove’ Shosha is known to rock many bold looks including thigh-length faux dreads, but there was once a time when her short “boy-cut” hair was her trademark look.
Loot was one of the first to celebrate Zozi’s Miss Universe win and of course had to mention her natural hair.
Singer and fashion designer Nandi Madida has been rocking her short, natural hair for years now.
During an interview on Real Goboza in August, Nandi revealed that going natural was a conscious decision. She wanted to inspire women to be comfortable in their own skin and not feel pressure to live up to certain beauty standards.
Model Rosette Mogomotsi got the big chop in September.
“She’s done! Been dreading shaving my hair for the longest time. Figured I’ll wait for the right time and today was perfect!” she wrote on Instagram. Rosette has been proudly rocking her short hair ever since.
Bonnie Mbuli shaved off all her hair in August 2019 for an upcoming TV role.
“Shaved my hair for my latest role today, it’s so weird to see myself like this again, it has probably been 12 yrs since I shaved my hair… same look, new me,” she wrote.
