CAPS United striker Dominic Chungwa heartbroken. Losing to the eventual champions in front of home supporters made it worse. Makepekepe went into Match Day 33 leading the standings by two points but went on to lose 3-2 to Ngezi Platinum. Darlington Dodo’s men then lost 1-0 to 10 men FC Platinum in a match they needed an outright win to be crowned champions in three years.
CAPS United striker Dominic Chungwa says they are still struggling to come to terms with their late collapse that allowed FC Platinum to snatch the Premiership title from under their noses.
“On my side it was very emotional and it’s very sad after everything I’ve done since the beginning of the season,” said Chungwa. Chungwa, who came on as a substitute on these decisive matches, believes they should have done better.
“I think we should’ve done something better at the end of the day, we should’ve done ourselves a favour. You know talking about it all time, seeing news about this everywhere is just tough for some of us,” said Chungwa.
CAPS were tipped favourites going into the match basing on the history in the teams’ previous meetings. It was Pure Platinum Play’s first win over CAPS and second in the 17 encounters they have played so far.
“It’s tough even right now to accept it and the way it ended. We know life goes on but it’s not easy and it’s going to be hard to accept,” he said. Chungwa said they thought it was their time given the work they had done since the beginning of the season.
“It’s something that’s going to be hard for us to forget and as players we talk but I think everyone is emotional because some players wanted the league and some don’t even have a medal. “And everyone thought this was our time but it’s hard and very emotional,” he said.
