Warriors midfielder Ovidy Karuru completes Stellenbosch move. Ex-Chiefs winger Ovidy Karuru has completed a move to Cape Town following his recent release from AmaZulu, as Stellenbosch sign a third player ahead of the January window. The Zimbabwean international, who spent just under three years at the Usuthu, was about to enter the final six months of his contract with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit before parting ways.

KickOff.com can confirm that Stellenbosch FC has completed the signing of a former Kaizer Chiefs attacker. It is believed the release of Karuru was to create an opening for a new foreign striker that the club was looking to bring in, but the 30-year-old has since offered clarity. “It is not true that I was offloaded,” the winger told Zimbabwean publication H-Metro.

“I had received a good offer from Stellenbosch via email, and I felt that it was the right time to make the move and take up a new challenge.

“So, we agreed with AmaZulu and immediately after I signed for Stellenbosch. I even signed the contract at my home – that is how much Stellenbosch wanted my services. “As a footballer, you always play where you are loved. They had been chasing after my signature since they were promoted, but previously I would refer them to AmaZulu, and there were never any talks [between the clubs].

“But because time was moving, I then engaged the club to allow me to move. Stellenbosch wants me to join them for training on December 28, and that is how serious they are with me. I am excited.”

Contacted for comment, Stellies head coach Steve Barker confirmed the developments but refused to reveal the length of Karuru’s deal. “That’s correct, but I’m not divulging the length of his contract. Once he was released and terminated his contract with AmaZulu, we moved to get a deal done,” Barker tells this website.
