Traffic Cop caught on CCTV stealing a cellphone. The long arm of the law didn’t have to extend too long in a rather shocking case involving a traffic cop who was caught on CCTV stealing a cellphone in a busy shop.

In the video which has since gone viral on Facebook, the cop spots the phone and sets his target on the easy payday. Someone might have forgotten it in the counter of a busy shop. While standing in the queue, he casually scans his surroundings to make sure no one was watching. Little did he know his every move was being captured by big brother, who is always watching.

Like an eagle to its prey, with deadly precision, the cop swoops in and grabs the cellphone which he tucks into his pocket in one swift move. He then casually walks out as if nothing had happened. The incident is believed to have happened in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

KZN Transport Department spokesperson, Kwanele Ncalane says they’ve met with the outlet’s management to verify the video after it made waves on social media.

“We take it very seriously because it affects the image of the institution, but further it also brings into question the morality and the public standing of our law enforcement fraternity”.

“There has been a correspondence last week to the traffic officer to say he must give reasons why he must not be suspended, but after an internal investigation we have come to a conclusion to place him on suspension,” he said.

The identity of the thieving cop was not revealed until all internal processes have been finalised. Some social media users have joked that it’s because of January while others said it was most probably a slow day in the streets and he had not gotten bribes.
