2 state agents missing after a boat capsized in Kariba. Two others were rescued, four hours later, by a crew which was coincidentally passing through the scene of the incident. Two law enforcement agents are missing after a boat which they had hired to ferry them to buy fish capsized off Lake Kariba on Tuesday night.

It is not clear if police sub-aqua unit has launched a search operation for the missing law enforcement agents. Police said the incident happened between Kariba Lake Harvest bream cages and Nyaodza Fishing Camp.

Police say the missing persons — Kudzanai Dewa, 32, a female adult of ZRP Kariba and Charles Kahara, 36, a male adult of ZPCS Kariba set out aboard a boat to go to Nyaodza Fishing Co-operative, Kariba to buy fish.

The boat was said to belong to one Faula Robson Mumba. Mumba is said to have coaxed the boat from Lake Harvest Harbour headed for Nyaodza Fishing Co-operative.

“While on the way,at around 1900 hours, violent wind made the Lake boisterous resulting in some water getting into the boat,” a ZRP Kariba police memo reads.

“The boat began to sink as a result of the trapped water. The coxswain Faula Robson Mumba advised occupants to cling to the boat to avoid drowning. However, missing person number one Dewa Kudzanai was overwhelmed by the wave and she left the boat and began drowning.“

“Upon realising that missing person one was drowning, missing person number two Kahara Charles jumped into the water to assist. However, the two disappeared into the water. The other two remained holding on the boat and were rescued by a passing dingy boat at around 2300hours,” the memo continued.

“There were taken to the shores and managed to travel on foot to Ndomo Fishing camp. Stephen Mofolo, a male adult aged 57 who is the chairman at Nyaodza fishing camp informed the case to the police.”
