Maid strangles employer’s 5-year-old son to death

Maid strangles employer’s 5-year-old son to death. Online publication, Zimlive reports that Zvinzveku appeared before Harare Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa on Thursday. Magistrate Mugwagwa denied Zvinzveku bail and remanded her in custody. She advised the accused to apply for bail at the High Court.

In a horrific development, a Harare maid was arrested for allegedly strangling her employer’s 5-year-old son to death. Memory Zvinzveku (19) of Eastview in Harare was arrested and charged with murder for the crime.

Outlining the state’s case against her, the prosecutors alleged that Zvinzveku picked up the 5-year-old child from Tafara 1 Primary School on January 22, 2020. After they got home, the deceased changed clothes and went to play outside with his friends.

Some minutes later, however, Zvinzveku called the deceased back home. After some time, Zvinzveku reportedly rushed over to a neighbour’s house. She told Fadzanai Kakunguwo (30), the neighbour, that the deceased was not waking up.

Kakunguwo accompanied Zvinzveku back to the house where she saw the deceased lying motionless on the bed despite attempts to revive him. An observant Kakunguwo also noticed that the minor had some scratch marks on his neck.

Kakunguwo also noticed that the deceased was now wearing a different T-shirt from the one that he had been wearing before he was called back into the house. She noticed that the white t-shirt the deceased had been wearing was now hidden in the washing basket with what appeared to be bloodstains on it.

The deceased had been changed and was now wearing a green t-shirt. The police later recovered the white t-shirt from the laundry basket and confirmed that it had bloodstains on it. A postmortem on the body of the minor revealed that he had been strangled. Zvinzveku was arrested for the crime. She is yet to reveal what happened leading up to the fateful moment.
