Air Zimbabwe cleared to fly Embraer aircraft. Air Zimbabwe has been flying a single plane, a Boeing 767, for all its domestic and regional routes to South Africa and Tanzania. The much nimbler Embraer is set to take over servicing the domestic routes, easing scheduling problems for the airline.
Air Zimbabwe, as the Embraer’s new owners, had to obtain manuals from the aircraft’s Brazilian manufacturer. Air Zimbabwe’s has finally received authorisation to fly its Embraer ERJ 145 which was delivered last April, but whose registration got caught up in regulatory hurdles.
In an announcement on Twitter Thursday, Air Zimbabwe said: “It’s finally out. It’s all joy and smiles for the Air Zimbabwe family as KYC (know your customer) approval for ERJ145 is finally out. Now we go full throttle on all necessary preparatory work for release into service.”
The aircraft was acquired from the United States by Zimbabwe Airways, the proxy debt-free airline that the government secretly established before the experiment was discontinued and its assets transferred to Air Zimbabwe.
Air Zimbabwe, as the Embraer’s new owners, had to obtain manuals from the aircraft’s Brazilian manufacturer, a process known as ‘know your customer’. The process was delayed by United States treasury suspicions of money laundering in the original transaction when Zimbabwe Airways purchased the aircraft.
