Bakers Inn Bulawayo rocked by s.e.xual harassment saga as employees blow the whistle on managers. A majority of female employees and students on attachment have allegedly been subjected to s.e.xual harassment by some of the managers. Bakers Inn Bulawayo has been caught in the eye of the storm amid claims of workplace s.e.xual harassment.
According to investigations by B-Metro, the female employees were being pestered for s.e.xual favours by the alleged perpetrators and when they refused they would be transferred from one branch to another without an explanation.
The victims revealed shocking details of victimization, intimidation, verbal bullying, forced hugs and kisses and all forms of s.e.xual misconduct. “We are being subjected to unwelcome s.e.xual advances, verbal bullying, victimisation, forced hugs and kisses, and all forms of s.e.xual misconduct.
Those who refuse the s.e.xual advances are subjected to further harassment like being transferred from one supermarket to another. Some victims are keeping quiet or not coming forward because they fear losing their jobs.
Another victim claimed that there was nepotism towards female workers, whom they suspected might have had s.e.xual encounters with the alleged perpetrators. The latest case of s.e.xual harassment which allegedly left one of the students on attachment extremely depressed and undignified has now become a police case after the human resources manager didn’t take action against the perpetrators.
A police officer close to the investigation of the alleged s.e.xual harassment at the company confirmed it. “Yes, there is a case of s.e.xual harassment involving a student on attachment from that company which is being handled by the police.
“The case is just a tip of the iceberg of what is happening at the company as more victims are yet to come forward and give their testimonies,” said the police officer. According to the police officer, when the victim was interviewed by the police she was so traumatised and ashamed, not only by the s.e.xual harassment but by having to recount all the details.
She had to be taken for counselling. Baker’s Inn chief executive officer Ngoni Mazango said the allegations would be investigated and the perpetrators would be brought to book.
