Chaotic scenes as hungry Zimbabweans fight over 5KG mealie-meal – Video. As the prices of basic commodities skyrocket beyond the reach of many and with Government subsidised mealie-meal flying off the shelves in major supermarkets, impoverished Zimbabweans have been left stranded.

In un-dated video footage recently obtained by iHarare, there was drama at a local supermarket after two customers wrestled for a 5kg bag of mealie meal. In the video, an unidentified man and woman are embroiled in a scuffle over the bag of mealie meal much to the amusement of bystanders.

his comes against reports that some enterprising unscrupulous individuals are hoarding the commodity and channelling it the black market where its sold at exorbitant prices. A 10kg pack of roller meal is officially pegged at $50, according to government gazetted prices following a subsidy arrangement, on the black market the commodity is being sold for $120, nearly triple the official price.
