Smash and grab thieves

Smash and grab thieves caught live on camera at a petrol station in Harare CBD – Video. Disturbing CCTV footage which has been seen by iHarare shows a car-breaking syndicate stealing from a car at a service station in broad daylight with such precision that they go unnoticed.

With most Zimbabweans spending much of their days and nights standing in equally long fuel queues as the country is still plagued by fuel shortages, the long winding queues have become the new hunting ground for some thugs who are cashing in on the chaos.

In the undated video, the gang which seems well resourced and organised has one of their members casually walk towards a car parked at a service station before opening cars door which is apparently not locked. The thief then enters and exits the car in a flash before making off with what appears to be a handbag.

The robber, together with his colleague who was surveilling the perimeter for potential whistleblowers then rush back to a black Honda Fit parked a few metres away from the service station which whisks them away from the crime scene.

Shockingly the theft occurs in broad daylight in full glare of bystanders who seem not to notice the theft taking place. The video has since sparked fears of how parking cars at fuel stations is no longer safe in Zimbabwe as there have been similar cases of car theft and break-ins at service stations.
