Zimbabwean girl wins The Voice UK battle with a stunning performance. The 17-year-old Blessing battled it out with fellow contestant Beryl McCormack singing Irish boy band Westlife’s hit song Flying Without Wings. So, what exactly are the battles on The Voice?

Aspiring UK based Zimbabwean singer Blessing Chipata blew the crowd and The Voice UK coaches away after she delivered a show-stopping performance during the singing competition’s ‘The Battles’ knockout segment.

After the four-piece panel of coaches put their teams together by picking out singing contestants, the battle rounds come up next. The battle rounds is where the coaches will cut their teams in half and keep five contestants to go through.

However, the coaches do also have the opportunity to add one more singer back to their group by stealing artists rejected by their other rival coaches. In the battle rounds, the coaches will then pit their artists against each other in a musical duel.

The two contestants in each battle will share the stage and sing the same song in front of the coaches and the audience. At the end of the battle, the contestant’s coach must pick a winner between them to be a part of their final team.

Once all the coaches have a team of 5, they will then be given the opportunity to steal a contestant, who has been rejected by the other coaches.

By the end of the battles, six acts will remain on each team and each line-up will be mixed up slightly. Those who survive the battles will go forward to the knockout rounds, and the live finals will follow.
