Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube on self-quarantine after a recent trip to Europe. This follows after the finance minister triggered coronavirus fears and massive outrage on social media after jetting out of the country to conduct government business in Europe despite the government banning foreign travels.
Following fictitious reports that have been circulating on social media that, Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube is currently in self-isolation, Information Ministry Secretary, Nick Mangwana has shot down the spurious rumours. Mangwana recently told the online publication, NewZimbabwe, that the minister is not in self-isolation.
‘He is not,’Mangwana told the local online news publication on Tuesday. ‘He is actually in Cabinet (meeting). However, some officials from the ministry are in precautionary self-quarantine because they had been in contact with the late Zororo Makamba.’
This also comes after Zimbabweans were plunged into fear following the first reported coronavirus death in the country. The now-deceased who was at first only reported as a 30-year-old male by health officials, died on Monday following complications caused by the virus. The patient, who was later identified as Zororo Makamba, the son of business mogul, James Makamba, had prior to his death been in contact with several government officials.
However, Mangwana said he could not shed more on the government officials now under self-quarantine as this was against their health privacy status. I can’t give that information without their consent as it pertains to individual health issues, he said.
Zororo, is also understood to have visited a number of places and met different people including government officials, a class of media students at the Midlands State University at the Harare campus and BancABC offices, among places in Harare.
