Air Zimbabwe suspends all domestic and regional flights. The National Airline Air Zimbabwe has decided to suspend its regional and local flights in light of the government’s new protocols in trying to limit the spread of Covid-19

In line with directives on travel restrictions issued by the Government of Zimbabwe to curb person to person contact and spread of the Corona Virus (Covid-19), the National Airline wishes io update its clients and stakeholders of the following:

• ALL regional and domestic flights have been suspended with effect from today March 26, 2020 until further notice.

• However, the last flight to Dar es Salaam (DAR) shall operate on March 28, 2020 to assist returning residents. Operation of this flight remains guided by the travel restriction directives issued by the Governments of Zimbabwe and Republic of Tanzania as well as the World Health Organisation (WHO,

This follows after it was revealed that nine airlines have shown interest in leasing Air Zimbabwe’s two long-haul Boeing 777-200ERs acquired from Malaysia in a deal expected to generate up to US$400 000 a month.

Air Zimbabwe’s assistant administrator, Mr Tonderai Mukubvu of Grant Thornton confirmed last week that leasing the planes and using the revenue to acquire smaller aircraft to re-establish strong domestic and regional services made more sense at the moment than rushing to establish international routes that are expensive to develop. The lease revenue would also allow Air Zimbabwe to sort out its financial debts.
