Leonard Dembo remembered. Friends and family of the late Leonard “Musorowenyoka” Dembo yesterday celebrated his death behind closed doors.

The lyricist died on April 9, 1996. Born on December 29, 1959, the Chitekete hit singer could be turning 61 this year if it wasn’t for his fate that he met him before his 33rd birthday.

Heir to his legacy, Tendai Dembo together with brother Morgan yesterday treated their mother and close mates to a braai at their Belvedere home. “It’s been a long 26 years since he passed on and we still miss his love and guardianship every day.

“As a precautionary measure against the novel virus, this year we reduced celebrations to household level with only close family members took part. “We are also taking time to bond as a family and reflect on our father’s life and the legacy he bestowed upon us,” said Tendai Dembo.

The youthful singer still feels he has a long way to go to fill the gap left by his father. “It’s going to take time and a few hits of my own which I’m currently working on.

“I want to assure all Barura Express followers that I will use everything in my power to meet their expected standards,” he said. The family also took time to encourage fans of the late Leonard Dembo to stay safe by following steps to prevent further spread of the Corona virus.

Like every year that has passed, the family through its benefactors including Dr Marisa had planned massive celebrations through nationalised live shows but were cancelled in response to a government ban on social events. Dr Marisa was also part of the mini celebrations yesterday where he made sure preventive Covid-19 measures were adhered to.
