ZANU PF member loses 28t of maize to thieves. The trio Lovemore Lovemore (25), Frank Vhonyera (29) and Charles Gomo (21) were arrested after they were spotted by the complaint stealing in a field. The matter came to light yesterday at Guruve magistrates courts yesterday where the trio was remanded in custody by Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro.
ZANU PF Central Committee member Maidei Maswi allegedly lost 28 tonnes of maize to three machete-wielding suspects at her farm in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central Province. They will be back in court on June 11 for trial. Prosecutor Albert Charehwa alleged on May 29 at Plot number 15 Ealing farm, Mvurwi Maswi received anonymous calls to the effect that the trio was stealing her maize and loading it in a white truck which was nearby.
She proceeded to the scene and spotted them, she then called the police who acted swiftly with their dogs. Upon their arrival, the suspects fled in different directions and Lovemore ran towards his house, he entered in his house and locked the door while wielding a machete to resist arrest.
The police broke into his house and a police dog managed to handle him with his machete. The police recovered two bags of shelled and unshelled maize in his bedroom.
Vhonyera was also arrested while trying to escape from his workplace and he implicated Gomo who was also arrested. The total value of the stolen maize is $448 000. Meanwhile, in 2018 Maswi alleged that she lost 30 hectares to a veld fire a move that was strongly condemned by those close to her.
