3 people killed in Harare-Chirundu accident identified

Three people who died when a Nissan Caravan vehicle veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels on 28 December have been identified by their next of kin.

The incident occurred at the 133-kilometer peg along Harare-Chirundu Road.

In a statement on X (twitter), police said: “The victims were identified by their next of kin as listed: Thomas Kunze (32), a male adult of Zimpress, Mhondoro, Last Gwanzura, a male adult of Magunje, Hurungwe and Fungai Chakachinja a female adult of Siakobvu.”

Police urged motorists to observe stipulated speed limits and abide by the road rules and regulations to curb accidents.

As the year 2023 curtains come down, many people may be tempted to celebrate with fireworks on New Year’s Eve. However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned the public that the sale and use of fireworks is illegal and dangerous and can have negative consequences for both humans and animals.

According to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, fireworks pose a serious fire hazard and can cause physical and psychological harm to people and pets. He said that the police will arrest anyone who is found selling, buying or lighting fireworks and urged the public to refrain from this practice.  Read More
