Zim SA-based players to undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests. This comes after the South African government has given the league the green light to resume training.
Zimbabwean soccer players and technical staff in the Absa Premiership will undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests today as they prepare for the official start of training next week.
And teams are set to begin training next week. The COVID-19 medical examinations are part of the government’s efforts to guarantee the health of players and staff members as well as to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Players who confirmed to be undergoing tests today include Amazulu winger Talent Chawapiwa and Maritzburg forward Gabriel Nyoni. Speaking to H-Metro Chawapiwa commended the government efforts in making sure that they put players’ safety first. “This is a good initiative and we are just keen to resume training with my teammates again.
“And l’m raising my hopes to games to also resume. We miss football and we can’t wait to get back to the pitch,” he said. Chawapiwa says he is not worried about games resuming. “I think if everyone gets tested it will be safe for us to resume. “Look at other leagues which have resumed, look at how they’ve have managed to resume and yet they’re safe.
“I think if everyone is cautious we will be able to resume without any fears of the virus because it can be manageable if safety measures are just exercised. “The only thing we will miss if football resumes is the atmosphere, football is not the same without the fans. “So we will miss the fans but l think it’s not a bad idea if football resumes,” he said.
