The Caps United salary saga continues

The Caps United salary saga continues. It is alleged that players are owed two-month salary despite the club having received a lump sum soccer sponsorship from NetOne of ZWL$433 740.00 on the 27th of May 2020.

CAPS United Vice President Nhamo Tutisani’s already tainted reputation was further dented on Tuesday when he failed to professionally handle a dispute between the club and players over unpaid salaries. Caps United players including the new acquisitions Tuesday morning besieged the club boss’ offices in Eastlea demanding their outstanding salaries.

The amount was meant to clear the players’ outstanding salaries. However, the players only received a monthly salary instead of three months. Working on a tip-off, the players decided to confront the club’s vice president Nhamo Tutisani who also acts as the chief executive officer.

Tutisani came close to being manhandled by angry players, harsh words including insults were exchanged between the two parties. In recorded audio currently circulating on social media, the club boss is heard bragging that he can pay players from his own pocket yet the club received money from their former principal sponsor, NetOne.

Tutisani further compromised his professionalism standing after he confirmed that he can fire his players there and then without ramifications based on contracts.

“I don’t respect you. I am going to fire you, give you your money and your clearance letter. From here, go to your bank and confirm. I am depositing your money from my personal account to yours,” Tutisani told Phineas Bamusi.

This is not the first time for the Harare businessman to grab headlines for the wrong reasons. Last year, he labelled Makepekepe fans as thugs after a heated argument in Kariba following the club’s 1:0 loss against ZPC Kariba in the absence of then-coach Lloyd Chitembwe.

Before the matter even settled down, he controversially fired three of his administration team for being three minutes late at work. The decision was however rescinded 24 hours later.

The Harare businessman is alleged to have a high priority on his Sports Avenue Academy housed at Mt Pleasant High School in Harare over the club. Unconfirmed reports claim that part of the NetOne funds could have been diverted to this project.

“Its a sad development especially for the club because he (Nhamo Tutisani) is claiming to be channelling funds received from Netone Cellular to his non-existent Sports Avenue Academy housed at Mt Pleasant High School in Harare where CAPS is renting a classroom with a single office desk as the club office,” the source who preferred anonymity told Sportbrief.

“This project has seen three groundsmen at the educational facility being on the Makepekepe payroll despite not being employed by the club because Tutisani claims to be maintaining the school’s grounds.”

“How does one claim to be running a successful sports academy with no athletes, no coach. Just the name and the school’s grounds,” the source added. There are numerous allegations of abuse of club funds obtained from player sales – Edmore Sibanda and Gabriel Nyoni and CAF Champions League participation (2017) meant for the players.

Tutisani, has apparently been preaching the gospel of professionalism as the core gateway to commercialization, but yesterday’s fallout with the players had a negative impact on that message.

“We acknowledge that we owe the players money but we don’t condone the manner they are expressing their disgruntlement,” Tutisani told Sunday Mail Online on Tuesday.
