5 Rusape men stone 94-year-old granny to death. Brian Makamba, Emmerson Nyamagodo, Edmore Murinda, Gibson Murinda and Ephraim Tundumarano have since appeared in court for allegedly murdering Tayisekwa Zimbudzi of Village 13, Chinyika West, Headlands.

Five Rusape were arrested for allegedly syjamboking a 94-year-old woman before stoning her death during a dispute over honey that had been stolen from a beehive.

The deceased was a traditional healer and her attackers were all her neighbours. State prosecutor Marlon Makamba said: The five allegedly effected a citizen’s arrest on Mrs Zimbudzi’s grandchildren – Munashe, Takunda and Guidance Muchakwaya — for allegedly stealing honey from Brian Makamba’s beehive. Mrs Zimbudzi’s grandchildren were kept at Makamba’s homestead.

The elderly woman was reportedly escorted by her other grandson, Tongai Mashamba, and went to Makamba’s homestead to rescue her grandkids. Gogo Zimbudzi was allegedly struck with a rock on the back by Tunduramo while they were deliberating over the issue of her grandchildren’s detention. Makamba added:

Mrs Zimbudzi returned to her homestead but the accused persons followed her and threw stones randomly. In the process, the elderly woman was hit on the chest.

She went to Headlands Clinic to seek medical attention and was referred to Marondera Provincial Hospital. However, she died on her way to the hospital. A post mortem revealed that the cause of her death was thoracic trauma.

The five men were not asked to plead when they recently appeared before Rusape magistrate, Gift Manyika but were remanded in custody to next week on Monday. They are being represented by Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates.
