Drama as ZANU PF MP refuses to resettle loan. Campion Mugweni who is a tobacco farmer in Mvurwi is one of the farmers being ordered by the High Court to resettle their loans in US dollars. Mazowe North Member of Parliament Campion Mugweni (ZANU PF) the has refused to settle US120 253 loan advanced to him by contracting Tobacco company Tian Ze Tobacco (Pvt) Ltd.
Hight Court judge Justice Mary Zimba-Dube in favour of Tian Ze Tobacco which was being represented by Bright Machekana while Mugweni was represented by Kelvin Musimwa. The legislator is eying the secretary for finance post in Mazowe District Coordinating Committee (DCC). Political analyst Givemore Shongwe denouncing Mugweni for failing to resettle the loan.
“Having lawmakers who are not honest is a problem to the country because the country can not progress with such people who are always in court over monetary issues,” he said.
“We hear he is contesting on the secretary for finance in Mazowe DCC election surely if the party is sincere Mugweni should not account for money.
Meanwhile, Mugweni is not new to controversy as he served 5 and half years in American prison after he played a role in an elaborate IRS scheme that involved identify theft and the filing of false income tax returns.
He was required to pay $1.9 million in restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office before being deported to Zimbabwe.
