Tino Kadewere receivies his 2019-20 Golden Boot award

Tino Kadewere receivies his 2019-20 Golden Boot award. Kadewere received the award on Sunday before Lyon’s 4-1 win over Monaco after finishing as top goalscorer in Ligue 2 last season, with 20 goals in 24 games for Le Havre. He was yet to receive his medal and it was presented to him during warm-up.

Zimbabwe international striker Tino Kadewere says receiving his 2019-20 Golden Boot award gives him confidence that he can accomplish the same feat with Lyon. And speaking to H-Metro on Monday, Kadewere said the honour reminded him of a good season he had in the French second division.

The 24-year-old said the presentation of the award at such a huge stage is an encouragement, from Le Havre, that he can emulate what he achieved. “It is so amazing to receive this award and reminding me of a great season I had with Le Havre.

“But it also gives me confidence and encouragement of who I can be or want to be, if I always work extra hard,” Kadewere told H-Metro. Kadewere said he appreciates the support he continues getting from his previous club. Les Gones posted pictures of Kadewere receiving the award while being embraced by teammates including Memphis Depay.

“It is an honour to be honest to have won that award, and getting it now at my new club brings joy and with the support I got from both Le Havre and Lyon after getting it was so touching. He has dedicated the award to his late brother Prince who died in August this year after a short illness. “I have just decided to dedicate the award to my late brother Prince, this one is for him in Heaven,” said Kadewere.

Kadewere made his seventh league appearance of the season against Monaco and lasted 81 minutes, getting involved in the build-up of two goals.

He started the move that gave the hosts the lead through Depay and went on to set up Toko Ekambi as Rudi Garcia’s men doubled the lead. The former Harare City forward, who has one goal for Lyon, believes he is adapting to the demands of Ligue1.

“I think I am starting to adapt well to Ligue 1 and I am also happy with the performances but gladly happy to be able to contribute for my team, that means a lot but the key is to keep pushing and being hungry for more,” he said.

The Warriors forward also spoke of the about the forthcoming back-to-back Afcon qualifiers against Algeria next month. “I am looking forward to being part of the squad. This is a big game for us but mostly the nation, it would be good to get some good results against Algeria. “So if given the chance, I will for sure try and do my best to make the nation proud,” said Kadewere.
