Reports of rampant abuse of students at Moleli High School

Reports of rampant abuse of students at Moleli High School. Provincial Education Director, Gabriel Mhuma on Thursday said his office had received the report and investigations were underway. “Yes, I received the report. “We have since directed the district office to institute investigations and once they are finished we will determine what action to take,” Mhuma said.

Mashonaland West’s provincial education office is probing reports of rampant abuse of students by a group of bullies, including prefects, at Moleli High School. Five prefects (names supplied) allegedly beat up several school children on Sunday with five reported to have been heavily assaulted.

The headmaster at the Methodist in Zimbabwe run institution Chinogwenya said he was not qualified to comment on the issue referring this publication to his superiors, who he said were handling the issue. A parent said this has been happening for quite a while but the issues were being swept under the carpet.

The parent said the issue reached the public after one of the pupils sneaked in with a cellphone, which was later used to circulate proof of abuse.

“Prefects should be leaders of the school. It does not paint a good picture when leaders become the most feared as they put other pupils to inhuman subjugation. “They should be protecting pupils and not beat them,” the parent said.
