Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube says not ready with judgment on an application by freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono for refusal of further remand. Chin’ono says section 31 of the Criminal Code under which he’s charged is a bogus law, and charges must fall away.
This comes after the two were arrested over a law that has turned about to be non-existant. Hopewell Chin’ono spent the weekend in prison after he was arrested by Police on Friday & charged with publishing or communicating falsehoods while Hon. Sikhala was arrested on Saturday on same charges & spent the weekend detained at Harare Central Police Station.
Court Update: MDC Alliance lawmaker Job Sikhala and freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono arriving at a court in Harare in leg irons. They are accused of posting a fake tweet, but they say the law they are charged under does not exist. A magistrate will rule on matter today.
