Meet Eirik Hoff Walmsness the guitar player who has taken Sungura music to Europe: Pics. Eriki has caught the attention of many Zimbabweans through his videos covering classic sungura songs, growing an audience on several social media platforms.

Eriki is a multi-instrumentalist from Norway, known in Zimbabwe as “Murungu weSungura”. Playing the drums, bass and guitars – he has shared the stage with artists such as Nicholas Zakaria, Alick Macheso and Sulu Chimbetu.Eriki

In 2019 he dropped his first single “Rollercoaster” featuring Jackson Kasamba, complete with a video shot in Chitungwiza.Eriki Sungura

Eriki finally released his debut album “Some Sort of Sungura” in December 2020. Produced in his home studio, this six-track album offers a variety of sungura flavours, with guest appearances by Tinashe Makura, Ccicci and Duduzile Mathonsi.

“The album is a tribute to Zimbabwe, a tribute to the sungura genre, and a tribute to my musical inspirations” according to Eriki. While based in Trondheim, Norway, Eriki has visited Zimbabwe regularly over the last four years.

Although the corona pandemic has put all travel plans on hold for the time being, Eriki is looking forward to returning to Zim for live performances in the future.
