11 things you didn’t know about the late Senator Ellen Gwaradzimba. Senator Ellen Gwaradzimba succumbed to COVID-19 on 15 January 2018 at a Harare facility after she was airlifted to Harare when her condition deteriorated last week.

Here are 11 things you probably didn’t know about the late Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister:

  1. Dr. Ellen Gwaradzimba was a renowned educationist who served in different capacities at Mutare Polytechnic as a Principal Lecturer,   Africa University as a Dean of Students, and as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe.
  2. Her son Remembrance Mbudzana was embroiled in a farm invasion storm after he took Richard Le Vieux to court for refusing to vacate from part of his Farfell Coffee Estate which was allocated to him through the land redistribution program.
  3. Gwaradzimba became the Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister in 2019, she held her first senatorial post in 2018.
  4. Last year she headlined for saying she should be left alone because she fought for this country during a farm invasion probe chaired by Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena. Gwaradzimba was being asked why she falsified the information she presented to the parliament when she said that.
  5. She was born Ellen Munyoro in Gutu Masvingo on 25 December 1960 and attended primary and secondary education in the Province.
  6. She met her husband Godfrey Mtausi Gwaradzimba in 1978 during the liberation struggle which she joined at the tender age of 16.
  7. She served as William Ndangana and Kumbirai Kangai’s secretary at some point in her life.
  8. She served as a board member for Manicaland Development Association, Zimpapers, Forestry Commission, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board, and GMB.
  9. She received military training in Tanzania at Nachingwea Military Academy
  10. She was a bookworm from a tender age and she was a holder of a doctorate in Education, a Master’s degree, and Bachelor of Arts in Adult Education
  11. She came from a family of freedom fighters, 5 of her brothers were all freedom fighters.
