12 MDC Alliance activists arrested at gunpoint freed on bail. MDC Alliance claims they were seized at gunpoint by soldiers and police while gathered to make funeral arrangements for a fellow activist. Twelve members of the opposition MDC Alliance who were arrested in Chinhoyi Saturday were released Monday on a ZW$5 000 bail each.
They were charged with violating COVID-19 regulations which prohibit gatherings that exceed 30 for funerals. They are expected to be back in court on March 12.
Some members of the public took the opportunity to criticise the government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for double standards saying Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa broke the same regulation but he never slept in prison.
