Horror as phone thief set on fire. The suspect Simbarashe Manangazira, 23, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi. A Glen Norah man almost lost his life after he was set on fire for accusing one of the patrons at a bar of stealing a cell phone.
Allegations are that on September 5, Manangazira and the complainant Munyaradzi Dzvaka were drinking beer at Mukanya homestead together with other patrons.
The court heard that as they were drinking, Tafadzwa Mukanya’s cellphone was stolen and Dzvaka confronted Manangazira accusing him of stealing the phone.
The confrontation did not go down well with Manangazira who went outside and returned with an unknown liquid which he poured over Dzvaka before setting him on fire.
Dzvaka sustained severe burns on his face. Manangazira was remanded in custody and referred to the High Court for bail consideration.
