Man arrested for employing 300 ghost workers and receiving their salaries for almost a year. The suspect Blessing Hove was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi. The complainant is Gabriella Prandini aged 49.
A man employed by an NGO as an Admin Clerk appeared in court after he reportedly employed 300 ghost workers and received their salaries for close to a year.
The court heard that between October 2020 and August 2021, Hove who was working for Goal Zimbabwe as a Human Resources and Admin Clerk forged documents such as daily labour sheets and Prandini’s signature on the contract forms and converted the money to his personal sheets.
Hove who was responsible for employing workers and process the contract forms as well as processing payments for those workers misrepresented to the organization that he had employed more than 300 workers and was receiving their payments defrauding the company of over US$25 000.
On August 27, it was discovered that Hove was paying more than 300 ghost workers and he was receiving their salaries and when he discovered that the offence had been uncovered, he resigned without notice. Magistrate Mangosi released him on free bail. Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
