South African hip-hop buddies Da L.E.S and AKA have buried the hatchet and it is beautiful to see.
Today, Da L.E.S celebrates his 37th birthday and birthday wishes have been flowing on social media. AKA has taken to his Instagram account to send him a sweet birthday shout-out. He posted a video of them toasting glasses and in the background, AKA can be heard saying “To the North god, the legendary, the top level, if there was no North god, there would be no us, fills from the north, parties from the north under the white house,” he said.
The rappers recently kissed and made up following their fallout. They were rumored to be beefing after MacG read a letter that claimed AKA was cheating on his late fiancée Nellie Tembe with DA Les’ baby mama.
“Nellie was suffering in her relationship, she struggled with cheating and abuse from Kiernan. It started last year when she had mentioned to me that she had tried to take her life after finding out he had been sleeping with other women. But what shook Nellie was when she found sexual messages on his phone [between AKA and DA Les’ baby mama,” the letter read in part.
DA Les refused to confirm or deny the allegations when contacted by IOL. He said he choose to focus on the well-being of his family. “In moments of tragedy, there are no winners. It is with a heavy heart, but I choose to focus on the future where my family and love is the baseline; I think we need a lot more of it to go around, as no one wins in conflict,” said DA Les.
In Lasizwe’s Drink Or Tell The Truth, he addressed rumours that he apparently dissed AKA. “I am glad you asked. No.1 that track was never about AKA and that’s on period. No.2 don’t believe everything that people say and No.3 I love my family with all my heart so I just decided to choose a path of family and I got a new kid on the way,” he said.
He also set the records straight on BET’s Behind The Story. He highlighted a lot of things and spoke about his friendship with AKA.
According to him, he does not like confrontation, and he was trying to keep his peace, “People who know me know I’m a non-confrontational guy, you know what I’m saying? So if I don’t really get with your energy anymore I have to protect my energy first.”
He reiterated that he won’t entertain any rumors, “So that’s where the relationship is right now, it’s putting my energy first, self-preservation first and I just keep it moving. All that ‘he said, she said’, I’m not with all of that,” he said.
Happy 37th birthday Da L.E.S.
