Harare Central Prison inmate murdered in prison cells

Two inmates at Harare Central Prison have appeared in court on charges of murder after allegedly fatally assaulting another inmate.

The two prisoners, allegedly teamed up to assault a fellow prisoner, accusing him of attempting to sodomise one of them.

Nelson Chizuzu aged 39 and Obey Chirandu aged 40 were not asked to plead when they appeared before a Harare magistrate.

The two were remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, 66- year-old Jennifer Austen together with Tarisayi Ziyambi aged 39 and Daniel Austen also aged 39 who allegedly sold a car they had hired at a car rental firm, have appeared in court on charges of theft of a motor vehicle.

It is alleged that the trio went to a car rental where they hired a Toyota Fortuner before they sold it. They were later arrested for selling the car without the authorisation of the owner.

The three were remanded in custody pending their bail hearing.

In other news – Mazowe prisoner escapes from jail

A 20-year-old Chiweshe man currently serving a jail term at Mazowe escaped from prison after observing that prison officers were not vigilant.

The matter came to light at Concession magistrates court on Friday where Blessing Mariti appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembawari on escaping a lawful custody charge.Learn More
