Former YFM and eTV presenter Nhlamulo ‘DJ Mulo’ Hlungwani died on the morning of Reconciliation Day after losing his battle with cancer. In August, DJ Mulo shared that he was diagnosed with cancer after experiencing abdominal pain. Mulo’s passing comes hardly a week after Mzansi lost a music icon and guitarist Bulelwa “Zahara’ Mkutukana who died from liver-related complications. In a statement yesterday, Mulo’s family confirmed his passing. “It’s with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Nhlamulo.
on the morning of 16 December 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home in Bryanston after his battle with cancer. We know that he has touched many lives and has brought endless joy to those around him. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for all the love, support and prayers that have been coming our way,” his family said.
The family also said that they were blessed to have experienced a wonderful soul like Mulo and that they will forever remember him. Mulo was a producer and DJ on YFM a few years ago. He also worked alongside Dineo Ranaka co-hosting a MVP Jam game show on eTV. He was married to fellow TV presenter Ntokozo Molefe and they shared a 3-year-old son.
A few months ago, Mulo shared his diagnosis on his socials:” It all started with excruciating abdominal pains that I couldn’t quite explain. The doctors searched but couldn’t find anything wrong, to which I celebrated (and that was this time last year on my birthday). However, many months passed and I started losing a lot of weight. I wasn’t able to eat properly, and my overall health started to deteriorate. So I went for more tests, and in October last year, I was diagnosed with cancer,”.
He went on to say with the support of his wife Ntokozo and his mother, family and friends he regained his strength and said he knew he would beat it just like others did. “I’m not out of the woods yet, my treatment continues and I’d like to thank everyone who’s been there for me,” he said at the time. Mulo’s family said details of his funeral arrangement will be announced soon.
