South Africa-based hip-hop artist Nadia Nakai is returning to her roots for a highly anticipated homecoming performance at the Shoko Festival’s Mash Up night on Friday, September 27, in Harare. This year’s festival promises an exciting lineup of diverse talent, transforming its traditional three-night format into a single night of vibrant urban culture at the Harare Gardens.
Joining Nadia Nakai on stage will be an array of local artists, including Kay Flow, Lalla Martin, RayKaz, the duo Shebeen Rap (Dough Major & Dingo Duke), Rutendo Jackie, and Bhekiwé. The event aims to highlight the unity among creatives from different backgrounds, showcasing the rich tapestry of Zimbabwean talent.
AneUnhu, the organizer of Mash Up night, expressed excitement about the event’s focus on community and collaboration. “I am honoured to be part of this one-night-only variety showcase. As we explore life and living with artists from across the nation, we discover that there is much more that unites us than divides us,” she stated.
The Shoko Festival will operate under the theme #BothSidesOfSamora, which seeks to bridge social divides and foster cultural exchange. Festival coordinator Vera Chisvo emphasized the importance of the event in merging experiences from different regions of Zimbabwe. “This is a night where the common experiences we share—both the culturally rich South and the vibrant North of Harare—finally come together to create a cultural explosion,” Chisvo noted.
Running from September 26 to 28 in Harare and nearby Chitungwiza, the festival aims to celebrate Zimbabwe’s urban culture and promote unity through creativity. With a blend of music, art, and community spirit, the Shoko Festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Zimbabwean culture.
