South African rugby star Siya Kolisi recently did a riveting interview with Welsh rugby player Dan Biggar at his Paris home. During the interview, the Springbok player opened up about his charity organisation, the Kolisi Foundation, SA politics and his personal life. According to Kolisi who is currently playing for French team Racing 92, at one point during his marriage to his wife Rachel, they had to go for marriage counselling.
Kolisi shares that his difficult upbringing had resulted in him being unable to communicate and open his heart up to his wife. For many of those looking in from the outside, Siya Kolisi is the perfect man living an even more perfect life.
With two Rugby World Cup wins under his belt, a loving and supportive wife plus two beautiful children — he is certainly “living the dream”.Unfortunately, it hasn’t always been this way for Siya who was raised single-handedly by his grandmother who often struggled to provide.
His childhood was marred by incidents of violence and crime and this left a stain in his young mind — something he carried with him until he met his now wife Rachel. Opening up to Dan Biggar in a Daily Mail article, Siya recalled struggling to communicate with Rachel in the early days of their marriage.
According to him, his harsh upbringing had “hardened his heart” forcing him to seek help from a marriage counsellor. Because I couldn’t give everything to my wife, because my heart was so hard and I didn’t know how to speak,” said. These days the couple are more in love than ever and continue to wow their South African fans with how well they compliment each other.Rachel has also been praised for sticking by Siya and helping him become the man he is today
