Man United training in Dubai: 5 things we noticed

Man United training in Dubai. 5 things noticed – including Jose Mourinho’s legacy. There was the visit to Salt Bae’s – you know, Salt Bae! – famous Nusr-et Steakhouse for a slap-up meal, and also Paul Pogba’s incredibly casual skills during an interview. Manchester United’s players seem to have been having a lot of fun out in Dubai.

And, most importantly, there has been plenty of warm weather training in a friendly environment as United limber up for Sunday’s visit to Tottenham and beyond.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has clearly made an impression on the club’s players during his short and so far successful stint as the club’s interim boss, as another look at the best images from their latest training session shows.

1. Jose Mourinho’s last United connection
It is hard the believe that it is less than a month since Jose Mourinho left United given how many scowls have turned into smiles since then.

And the man smiling here next to Jesse Lingard is goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez, who is the only one of Mourinho’s staff who stayed at the club following the manager’s sacking.

So in a way he’s Mourinho’s legacy, and he certainly seemed to be enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere. How could you Emilio?! His body’s not even cold!

2. Luk-ing to prove himself

Romelu LukakuBy all accounts, Dubai is where Solskjaer has told Marcus Rashford that he’s his No.1 option in attack ahead of Romelu Lukaku, which might explain the Belgian’s focused stare here.

The £75million man faces a battle to regain his status as the club’s preferred central striker and looks like dropping to the bench for Sunday’s trip to Spurs.

3. Eyes on No.1

Solskjaer and rashford

And with that in mind, it was perhaps no surprise that Solskjaer was keeping a close eye on Rashford at the session, with the England man now tipped to start that game at Wembley.

It is a big call from the interim boss to take such a stance on what was one of Mourinho’s major selection constants, but the 21-year-old is certainly paying him back.

4. Who likes short shorts?

Alexis Sanchez
It’s pretty warm in Dubai. Which is handy really seeing as this is a warm weather training camp and all that. We’re not sure if it’s quite warm enough for Alexis Sanchez to do this thing he always seems to do with his shorts though, really. Weird isn’t it?

5. Size doesn’t matter

Manchester United
It’s not quite Mathieu Valbuena vs Marouane Fellaini, but Angel Gomes vs Victor Lindelof is certainly a meeting of opposite sizes. The camp will have been a big, important step for Gomes in his development, especially as Solskjaer blocked a loan move for him in January in order to keep him around at the club.
