Miss Congo, Dorcas Kasinde, won the Miss Africa 2018 beauty pageant, but her crowning moment didn’t go as planned when her hair caught fire onstage.
The annual pageant was held in Cross River State in Nigeria on 27 December and a video of the unfortunate moment has gone viral.
A video has gone viral showing Kasinde hugging one of her competitors after being named the winner of the pageant. However, the 24-year-old was left shocked as she realised that her hair had caught fire. A man immediately came to put out the flame.
The day after the pageant, the organisers of the event posted pictures of Dorcas sitting on her throne, wearing a crown, smiling.
The celebration was halted when the incident took place due to a stray spark. Shouts and gasps could be heard from the audience during the event in Nigeria.
“I am good. My hair…it’s okay. I feel good now. Thank you!” she said in a video posted by the pageant’s twitter account. “I am so happy and I want to thank you all to tonight to support me on social media,” Kasinde said after the blaze was put out.
