Zimbabwe 3-1 Somalia

Khama Billiat struck in the dying stages to send Zimbabwe into the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage qualifiers after overcoming Africa’s lowest-ranked side.

The Warriors were left stunned last week after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Africa’s lowest-ranked nation in Somalia last week Thursday.

As a result, Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat received a late call-up for the second leg and joined fellow South African-based forwards Evans Rusike and Clive Augusto in the attack.

Despite the inclusion of Billiat along with Rusike, Augusto and Kudakwashe Mahachi, the Zimbabweans found it tough to break down the visitors in the opening 45 minutes, with half-chances arriving in the latter stages of the half.

In an attempt to change their fortunes, Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa made his way onto the pitch after 53 minutes, with Augusto making way.

The breakthrough eventually arrived on 77 minutes, with former Orlando Pirates defender Marshal Munetsi finding the back of the net to level to the tie on aggregate.

The Warriors were stunned with five minutes remaining after Omar Mohamed restored parity on the day and put the visitors 2-1 up on aggregate.

The joy was short-lived as Zimbabwe were back in front thanks to a well-taken free-kick from Mutizwa that sailed into the far corner.

Zimbabwe’s spot in the group stages was sealed moments later when Billiat popped up with the third goal after skipping past one defender before burying the ball into the top corner.
