I was his biggest fan and older brother: Benni McCarthy mourns AKA

Manchester United’s South African assistant coach Benni McCarthy has paid homage to slain rapper AKA, who was gunned down in Durban on Friday night. AKA was shot six times outside a restaurant in Florida Road, Durban on Friday 10 February and was declared dead on the scene by Durban police.

Forbes was not alone when he was killed, he was with his friend Tebello Tibz Motsoane – who was also shot and killed. The rapper’s bodyguard had been wounded. There has been widespread reaction to the untimely passing of one of South Africa’s best musical talents and the latest has come from Manchester United’s attack coach McCarthy.

AKA was a big Manchester United supporter and with McCarthy being South African and also from the Cape Flats like the rapper, he always hyped up the soccer legend on his social media platforms. One could say AKA was the vocal lead singer of the Benni McCarthy praise entourage.

Hours before his death, the musician shared Manchester United’s Instagram post of celebrating McCarthy on his own Instagram stories. The post can still be seen.

Benni McCarthy initially shared a broken heart emoticon on his Instagram stories, but have since posted a heartfelt tribute to his late friend.

“I’m absolutely heartbroken to hear of the passing of my bro Kiernan Forbes AKA. My condolences to Kiernan’s family and little girl. RIP Young King,” Benni captioned his post which features three photos of him and AKA. Of the thousands of comments from his followers on McCarthy’s, the soccer legend sent emotional replies to two of them.

When one follower commented “He loved you so much, he always posted you Benni,” the Bafana Bafana veteran said the following: Another of Benni’s followers commented: “He was your biggest fan. RIP SupaMega.” To that, Benni McCarthy responded: “So was I His absolute biggest fan and older brother
