Family speaks out on Costa Titch’s passing

South African music industry and music lovers has suffered another big blow.

This after top rapper Costa Titch collapsed and died on stage.

Costa, whose real name is Costa Tsobanoglou (28), died while performing at Ultra Music Festival at the Expo Centre in Joburg on Saturday night, 11 March.

His family issued a statement confirming his death.

It read: “Death has tragically knocked at our door. Robbing us of our beloved son, brother, and grandson, Constantinos Tsobanoglou (28), who South Africa had come to love and idolize under his stge name Costa Titch. It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time.”

They thanked the emergency responders and everyone who was present at his last hour.

“As a family we are faced with a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has befallen us and ask that we be afforded the time and the space to gather ourselves,” read the statement.

They also thanked Costa’s fans for showing his support.

“Please keep us in your prayers,” they said.

People across Mzansi, including EFF president Julius Malema, took to social media to share their tributes after his death.

Some shared a video of the rapper from Mpumalanga collapsing in front of the audience when he was performing live during the event.

He was known for his hit single song titled Big Flexa that has more than 45 million views on YouTube.

Earlier this year, Costa Titch received a major co-sign from American musician Akon who praised him.

He recently signed a global deal with Akon and they teamed up for the Big Flexa remix whose visuals have already surpassed a million views on YouTube.

His death comes after Mzansi music lovers were still healing their wounds after the recent death of AKA, who was shot dead in Durban on 10 February.
