Govt commits to more PPPs in education sector

Government says it is committed to public-private partnerships that ensure the delivery of education across the country.

Private players in the education sector have been challenged to continue supporting the government’s goal of promoting education in the country.

Speaking at an event that marked the official commissioning of a Gutu-based school built by a private player recently, the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe, who was the Guest of Honour, said it is time to take advantage of the Second Republic’s pro-development policies and invest in the education sector through providing modern education infrastructure and learning material.

“Let us all acknowledge the work that is being done by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his team. They have presented a conducive environment for anyone to invest in this country including in the education sector. Let us take advantage of the opportunity and assist our government in providing quality education to the future generation through building state-of-the-art schools,” said Hon Kazembe.

Government pledged to continue working with private players to ensure access to quality education for all.

“We are excited about what we have seen here at Sandon Academy, the government is fully in support of such developments. The goal is to ensure quality education and that it is accessed by all. Currently, a number of schools are being built especially in rural communities through devolution funds,” noted Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira.

Masvingo Provincial Education Director, Ms Shylatte Mhike Upsound Ms Shylatte Mhike said, “As a province, we have seen a number of schools being opened with some satellite schools being regularised. Vision 2030 can be achieved as we are on the right track.”

The school’s chief executive officer and Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Honourable Lovemore Matuke said the goal is to assist both underprivileged and privileged children to have quality education.

“This was our pioneer project and currently we have got another one in Chiredzi. The idea is to support Vision 2030 and at the same time assist our children to have access to quality education.”

The event saw students and teachers who excelled last year being presented with awards and scholarships.

Government has made significant strides in building more schools across the country, with support from private players coming as complementary.
