South African rapper Mthembeni Ndevu aka Emtee’s estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy, has accused him of trying to bankrupt their joint estate after he allegedly transfered over R500 000 from their trust account.
Sunday World reports that Nicole headed to the Joburg High Court to apply for a court interdict to force the Manando hitmaker to pay back the funds within two days of receiving the court papers.
Earlier this month, TshisaLIVE revealed that the musician – real name Mthembeni Ndevu – filed for divorce in April; the same month he was attending his assault case which his wife later withdrew.
The couple share three children together, born in 2015, 2018 and their last born whom Nicole gave birth to on 4 May this year. In the court papers, the mother-of-three reveals that they got married in community of property in 2019.
She stated that she wants the trust fund untouched until they finalize their divorce. In addition, the court interdict is to stop Emtee from taking loans against their assets, squander their assets, or depleting the bank account of Emtee Records or trust account, or selling shares in Africa Trap Movement.
“It is not clear from the notification what the reason for the transfer was, and to which bank account it was transferred.
“My apprehension is that it is a clear act of dissipation and an attempt at hiding funds from me by the first respondent, either acting alone or in concert with Dumisani [Emtee’s lawyer],” read the papers.
While Nicole says Emtee has shares, stake and/or assets in Emtee Rocords and African Trap Movement, she admits that she does not know the value. She, on the other hand, does not own any assets except a laptop, cellphone, jewellery and clothing which is estimated at R100 000.
On 2 May, when Emtee appeared at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court, he was told that his ex had withdrawn the assault charges. In March, the rapper was accused by a heavily pregnant Nicole of physical assault on Valentine’s Day.
In her withdrawal statement, Nicole said that she forgives the musician for the sake of their two children, Avery and Logan, as well as their unborn baby at the time.
Emtee has maintained that he is innocent throughout the court battle. In March, after he was granted bail, he told Zimoja that he handed himself over because he wanted to prove his innocence.
“I was informed that a warrant of arrest was out. I know I have nothing to hide, I am not an abuser. I went to the police station with my lawyer,” he told the outlet.
The By Any Means rapper once again denied beating his wife up. He further said that Nicole was the abusive one, saying she sustained her bruises from attacking him.
“She came charging at me and I defended myself. I did not hit her. I held her and shook her. Why would never hit a woman and a heavily pregnant one at that,” Emtee explained.
The musician also said that his estranged wife needs to come out and tell the truth because she is damaging his image.
