Zimbabwean business executives are set to attend a business indaba in China this month as trade ties between Harare and Beijing continue to deepen.
Local businesses are set for an in-depth engagement with potential business partners in China during the Zimbabwe-China Business Forum penciled for 30 May to the 1st of June.
The business Indaba has been organized by the export promotion body, ZimTrade, to improve the visibility of the country’s products in the Asian market.
The Zimbabwe-China Business Forum will draw participants from Zimbabwean and Chinese governments, and industry players in sectors such as mining, energy, manufacturing, leather, technology, agriculture, processed foods, clothing and textile, packaging, building and construction, and engineering services.
According to ZimTrade export promotion manager Mrs. Vuyiswa Mafu, the initiative is in line with the economic diplomacy being championed by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa whose vision is to have an export-led economy.
“This is part of our mission to expand our export horizons and this trip to China is a very good opportunity to tilt trade in our favor as at the moment we are importing a lot from this market, therefore, we are seeking to balance the trade scale,” she said.
China presents vast export opportunities for local businesses in value-added products and services.
Some of the low-hanging fruits for local companies include horticulture, processed foods, leather and leather products as well as services.
