Ronan Keating’s brother killed in a tragic car accident

Ronan Keating’s older brother has been named locally as the victim of a car crash on the N5 near Swinford on Saturday. Ciaran was the older brother of Boyzone star and The One Show host Ronan and was in his 50s when he died.

He was traveling with his wife, Ann Marie to watch their son, Ruairí plays for Cork City FC in a clash with Sligo Rovers, when the collision took place, it’s been reported. The fatal car accident occurred at around 3.55 pm on Saturday with Ciara suffering fatal injuries in the collision on the N5 at Ballymiles on a stretch of road known as an accident black-spot.

Ciaran’s wife Ann Marie was taken to Mayo University Hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries while the male driver of the second vehicle is understood to be receiving treatment for serious injuries in the hospital. A male passenger in the second vehicle has also been hospitalized.

Ronan’s older brother and his family relocated from Dublin to Mayo 15 years ago and he reportedly worked as a car salesman having previously run a bar.

In a statement, Cork City FC said: “All at Cork City FC are deeply saddened at the passing of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairí Keating. We extend our deepest sympathies to Ruairí and the entire Keating family at this exceptionally difficult time. May he rest in peace. We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.”

Councillor John O’Malley also offered his condolences and said: “Everyone is shocked and saddened by the awful news. He was highly regarded by all who knew him here and we are thinking of his wife and children and his extended family.”

Christy Hyland, an Independent member of Mayo County Council, added today: “Our sympathy goes out to all the Keating family. Ciaran’s death is truly shocking”.
