Man’s body found in the back of a burning van

A man’s body has been found in the back of a van that was on fire and police have launched an investigation into the mysterious circumstances. Police were called to the blaze in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire at 7.55 pm on Sunday. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service found the man’s body after putting out the fire.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, Staffordshire Police said, with a post-mortem examination to be carried out to establish the cause of the man’s death.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said this morning: “We are investigating following the discovery of a man’s body in the back of a van that was on fire in Burton.

“We were called to Paget Street by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at 7.55 pm this evening (Sunday 13 August) after they were called about a van fire.

“A man’s body was recovered from the van once fire crews had dealt with the fire. The death is currently being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death. We are keen to speak to anyone with any dashcam footage from the area or those with any information which could help.”

Police have asked anyone with footage from the area or information about the incident to contact the force, quoting incident 637 of August 13.
