Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert opens up about depression

Newly crowned Miss South Africa, Natasha Joubert revealed that she battled depression after she did not place in the Top 21 of Miss Universe 2020 – in an interview with eNCA.

On Sunday 13 August Natasha Joubert was crowned Miss SA 2023 at the finale of the pageant held at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Sunday 13 August. Bryoni Govender, who hails from Gauteng was the runner-up. Nade Mabala was the second runner-up.

She revealed that she began seeing a psychologist after she came back from Miss Universe 2020 where she did not place in the Top 21. Natasha expressed that she felt that she did not represent South Africa well at the Miss Universe pageant and she thereafter struggled with depression.

“I struggled to a point where I just wouldn’t get out of bed and my best friend said this is my psychologist’s number, just go see her. I remember the first few sessions, I would just cry constantly. Whenever I would bring up Miss Universe, I would just cry because it was PTSD that stayed with me,” she said to eNCA.

Natasha went on to mention the toll her father’s passing had on her. She revealed that she had not dealt with it by 2020 and then by 2021 it was depression.
