Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested in Florida for failure to appear in court, prison records have revealed. According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report seen by The Mirror, the 27-year-old was booked into jail on Wednesday evening just after nine. The New York native, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was released from custody three hours after he was booked in.
The Mirror US has contacted Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for further comment. The arrest came months after he was rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a group of men at a Florida gym.
Back in March, the rapper was jumped by several men while in the sauna of an LA Fitness gym. According to his lawyer Lance Lazzaro, the hip-hop star did his best to defend himself but was outnumbered by his attackers and “beaten to a pulp” before the men fled the scene.
Tekashi 6ix9ine did not have security with him during the attack. In a picture obtained by TMZ, the Fefe artist was seen with a swollen face and a gash near his cheek. Insiders told the publication that his jaw, ribs and back were also injured during the attack.
A video of the attack did the rounds on social media, which showed a pair of men punching and kicking the musician as he was on the floor of the gym. A second clip showed Tekashi 6ix9ine with blood on his face as he left the sauna and returned to the main area of the gym.
It is unclear if the incident was linked to his past legal issues. In 2020, the rapper was granted early release from federal prison following his 2019 sentence in connection with racketeering.
He had faced numerous charges, including racketeering, attempted murder, possession of a firearm and assault with a weapon. Hernandez had faced a 47-year minimum sentence and a maximum of life in prison in the case, in which he was accused of several crimes while part of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.
However, he reached a plea bargain and agreed to testify against multiple gang members. 6ix9ine first rose to fame by uploading tracks to Soundcloud before his debut album Gummo became platinum in 2017.
