Shannen Doherty announces cancer diagnosis

Shannen Doherty has said she has a “fight for [her] life” that she’s dealing with at the moment after announcing just months ago that cancer had spread in her body.

The actor, 52, initially announced she had breast cancer in 2015 and was later said to have gone into remission. It was then revealed that it had returned in 2019, with her said to have been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

She announced in July this year that it had spread to her brain, sharing that she had her first round of radiation months earlier in January. Shannen also shared she had surgery “to remove [a tumor in her head] and also biopsy”.

Shannen – known for her roles on shows like Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210 – issued an update on her life whilst at a fan convention over the weekend. She joined some of her former co-stars for the event in Tampa, Florida.

This included her reuniting with some of her former colleagues from Beverly Hills, 90210 for a panel. Shannen – who played Brenda Walsh on the Fox show – sat alongside other cast members to discuss the popular TV series.

The cast of the show – which ran from 1990 to 2000 – were among those in attendance at 90s Con on Sunday. They held a panel at the event, where Shannen is said to have teared up whilst receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

Footage from the event that has been shared on social media showed Shannen expressing gratitude over the support she received amid cheering from the audience. She also shared an update about her life at the moment.

As reported by People magazine, who hosted the panel, she thanked the crowd and teased that she “loves crying constantly.” She further commented: “I fight for my life, that I deal with every day. I think I am great.”

She went on to seemingly joke about having separated from her third husband Kurt Iswarienko. It was reported in April that Shannen had filed for divorce from photographer Kurt, whom the actor has been married to since 2011.

Seemingly teasing about the end of the marriage, Shannen said to the audience during the panel at the convention over the weekend: “My other profession is getting engaged, married, and divorced, and I’m doing that very well.”

She also took the opportunity to discuss her podcast Let’s Be Clear, which is set to launch on November 13. Shannen teased that it’s a “live interactive memoir,” adding that fans will get to hear “everything” she’s previously refused to say.

She promoted the Old·ish podcast that is co-hosted by her former colleague Brian Austin Green, 50. Shannen said that his podcast is “amazing,” whilst Brian – who played David Silver on Beverly Hills, 90210 – was sat alongside her.
